Cheney celebrated with Presidential Citizens Medal amid GOP criticism
In a noteworthy ceremony at the White House, President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal to former lawmaker Liz Cheney and other distinguished Americans.
Cheney was applauded for her role in Congress and on the special House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack.
She received a standing ovation for prioritizing the nation over her party.
Alongside her, Bennie Thompson was honored for his commitment to the Constitution.
Other recipients included former Sens. Chris Dodd and Bill Bradley, and Mary Bonauto, a key advocate in the marriage equality Supreme Court case.
Despite the accolades, some Republicans, including Sen. John Barrasso, criticized Cheney’s recognition, dismissing her as partisan and divisive.
