Chad junta chief flies to Qatar for peace deal with rebels
N’Djamena, Chad – (AFP):
The head of Chad’s ruling junta has flown off to Qatar to seal a peace deal with rebels, a key step in plans to restore civilian rule.
General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno’s plane took off from N’Djamena airport bound for Qatar, according to a presidential statement.
Deby and opposition groups plan to sign an accord in order to open the way for the rebels to attend a “national inclusive dialogue” on Chad’s future.
