GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) – Two Palestinians, including a five-year-old girl, have been killed and several others injured despite a fragile ceasefire agreement.
The incidents highlight the precarious conditions faced by Palestinians attempting to rebuild their lives in the war-torn enclave.
Five-year-old Nadia Mohammed al-Amoudi was tragically killed late Monday when the Israeli army shelled a horse cart in al-Jisr, west of the Nuseirat refugee camp, according to the Wafa news agency. The same attack left three others wounded.
In a separate incident, a Palestinian man lost his life, and several others were injured after Israeli forces bombed a bulldozer attempting to clear a stuck vehicle in Nuseirat. These violent episodes occurred amid the three-stage cease-fire agreement, active since January 19, which allowed over 300,000 displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza.
However, returnees have found little more than rubble and devastation in their communities.
According to the economist Tibaa, Gaza’s industrial and commercial infrastructure has been devastated, with over 80% of factories, shops, and workplaces either partially or completely destroyed.
The destruction has crippled livelihoods in the region, where more than 50,000 industrial and commercial facilities existed before the conflict escalated. The Palestinian Ministry of Economy warns that this economic collapse could permanently erase the besieged territory’s lifelines.
In Rafah, the situation remains dire despite Israeli forces withdrawing from the city centre as part of the ceasefire agreement. Israeli troops continue to station themselves along the Philadelphi Corridor, which borders Egypt, and have declared areas within 700 metres of the border a “red zone.” According to Rafah’s Mayor, Ahmed al-Soufi, the ongoing military presence makes the area “extremely dangerous,” even outside restricted zones.
Meanwhile, violence and repression are intensifying in the West Bank. In Tulkarem, Israeli forces reportedly pushed families out of their homes at gunpoint, besieged the Thabet Government Hospital, and blocked ambulances from reaching those in need.
UN special rapporteurs and independent experts have condemned these actions, warning of escalating Israeli repression with no resolution in sight.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 47,317 Palestinians and injuries to 111,494 others. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November last year for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the enclave.
As Gaza remains trapped in a cycle of destruction and despair, the international community continues to call for accountability and a lasting resolution to end the suffering of its people.
