CAIR-SFBA Welcomes Hate Crime Probe Of Anti-Asian
The Council on American-Islamic Relations welcomed a hate crime investigation into anti-Asian slurs spray-painted onto a San Leandro, California home last weekend.
On Saturday, police responded to a report of vandalism at 9 p.m.
“A racial epithet within an anti-Asian message” was scrawled on a realtor sign marketing the property for sale.
On Sunday, police found the same epithet painted on the home’s garage door.
Authorities are investigating the vandalism as a hate crime.
The realtor, property owner, and recent tenants of the house are all of Asian descent.
Sameena Usman, senior government relations coordinator for CAIR’s San Francisco Bay area chapter, said “there is no room for any act of racist hate.”
