CAIR praises Maryland for joining fight against student visa crackdown
The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has praised state Attorney General Anthony Brown and three Maryland colleges for joining a multi-state legal challenge against the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigrant students.
Brown and 18 other attorneys general filed a court brief urging a federal judge to block the Trump administration’s “Ideological Deportation Policy.”
That targets and punishes noncitizens with lawful status, especially college students and faculty, who express political beliefs with which the Administration disagrees.
They argue it violates the First Amendment by targeting students and faculty for their political views.
The University System of Maryland, Goucher College, and Loyola University Maryland backed the move, calling for an end to visa revocations without cause.
CAIR Maryland condemned the crackdown and is investigating the scope of the visa cancellations to offer advocacy and legal support.

CAIR’s latest civil rights report warns that Islamophobia in the U.S. is at record levels, with growing viewpoint discrimination on U.S. campuses.
