Building collapse in India’s Mumbai kills at least 19
NEW DELHI (AA) – At least 19 people have died after a residential building in India’s financial capital Mumbai collapsed overnight, officials said on Tuesday.
Rescuers worked through heavy rain to scour through the rubble of the four-story building in Mumbai’s central Kurla area.
Civic body BMC said 14 more people were injured in the incident, with four of them still in hospital.
According to local news agency ANI, senior BMC official Ashwini Bhide said the building was “dilapidated” and multiple notices for repairs and demolition had been issued since 2013.
She said the residents even gave “an undertaking that they would stay there at their risk and cost,” the report said.
