Buffalo Public Schools Seek To Recognize Muslim Holidays
Leaders at Buffalo Public Schools in New York are pushing to allow Muslim students to take off from school for their religious holiday.
Muslims across the U.S. and globally are now observing Ramadan.
The month of fasting ends in early May this year, with the Eid al-Fitr festival, including a big celebration attended by thousands on Buffalo’s waterfront.
Many people want celebrations like Eid, Christmas and the Jewish High Holy Days to be official holidays with days off from school.
Buffalo Public Schools Interim Superintendent Tonja Williams said she’s looking at the issue.
