B’Tselem issues ‘Welcome to Hell’ report about Israel
In a report issued this month, Israeli human rights group B’Tselem has exposed the severe abuse of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention since Oct. 7, 2023.
Titled “Welcome to Hell,” it is based on testimonies from 55 released Palestinian detainees.
It reveals a pattern of violence, torture, and deprivation across more than a dozen Israeli detention facilities, which effectively have become torture camps.
Prisoners reported being subjected to starvation, sleep deprivation, and being forced to endure unhygienic conditions.
Many detainees were also denied access to medical treatment, religious worship, and contact with legal counsel or human rights organizations.
The report highlights the majority of these detainees were held without charges, under a system known as “administrative detention,” in which individuals can be imprisoned without trial or evidence presented against them.
As of July 2024, the number of Palestinians in Israeli prisons was 9,623, with almost half detained without trial.
B’Tselem’s report underscores a systematic policy of abuse and torture.
The organization has called for international intervention to end these practices and stressed the need to hold the responsible parties accountable.
