Brussels court hands Abid Aberkane 3-year suspended prison sentence over 2015 Paris attack

PARIS (AA) – The Brussels Criminal Court delivered a three-year suspended prison sentence on Thursday to Abid Aberkane, the last “landlord” of the now-convicted Salah Abdeslam, the ringleader of the November 13, 2015, attacks in Paris, according to French newspaper Le Monde.

Aberkane hosted Abdeslam in Brussels in the spring of 2016, as he fled from authorities in the aftermath of the attacks.

A total of 130 people were killed in a single night in various cafes around the nation’s capital, at the Bataclan Nightclub, and at the Stade de France just outside city limits.

Aberkane was arrested by authorities on March 18, 2016, for housing the accused.

Abdeslam is the only known survivor out of a group of 20 accused of the 2015 crimes. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole in a final verdict handed down by the chief prosecutor at the Paris Court of Assize on Wednesday.

The 19 others were given various sentences while six of those accused were tried in absentia, presumed to be either on the run or dead.

Aside from Aberkane, 14 other people stood trial in the Brussels court for aiding those who carried out the attacks in 2015. Four of them were acquitted, and three others had a suspension of their sentences.
