Brunei unveils digital identity system to boost online security, efficiency
New BruneiID initiative aims to streamline digital transactions, enhance public trust in e-services
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei (MNTV) — Brunei is set to introduce a national digital identity system, BruneiID, as part of its push to modernize public services and ensure secure, efficient online transactions, the Borneo Bulletin reported.
The initiative, which enters a six-month trial phase soon, will provide citizens with a reliable digital credential for seamless and secure online interactions.
The trial will focus on gathering user feedback and refining the platform ahead of a full-scale launch.
Aligned with Brunei’s National Digital Economy Blueprint and Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, the BruneiID project underscores the government’s commitment to digital transformation.
The system aims to centralize identity verification, bolstering public confidence in digital services amid rising cybersecurity concerns.
To support the initiative and broader digitization efforts, the government has allocated BND146.5 million ($108 million) for IT projects across various ministries.
The move reflects Brunei’s strategy to adapt to rapid technological advancements and strengthen its digital infrastructure in an increasingly interconnected world.
The BruneiID system is expected to play a pivotal role in modernizing public sector services, improving efficiency, and enhancing digital security for citizens.
