Border agents arrest 308 migrants on Trump’s 1st full day in office: Report
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested 308 migrants on the first full day of President Donald Trump’s administration.
Among those arrested were people charged with crimes such as murder and child rape, according to Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, who was cited by the New York Post.
Homan said immigration officers began arresting illegal migrants who pose threats to “public safety,” adding there are about 700,000 currently in the U.S.
Posters are plastered across Little Village, a predominantly Mexican neighborhood in Chicago, warning about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE raids.
The signs carry messages such as “DON’T OPEN ICE! ICE OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES!” and caution residents that “ICE cannot legally enter your home without a judge-signed warrant.”
The warnings come amid heightened concerns over immigration enforcement, and president Donald Trump’s pledge in his inaugural address to deport “millions and millions”.
Trump’s border czar Tom Homan has said deportations will begin with large cities like Chicago.
