Bombs and aid cannot go together: Lawmakers to Biden on Israel policy
Muslim Network TV news:
Members of the progressive squad of lawmakers have expressed discontent over President Joe Biden’s support for Israel during his State of the Union address.
Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush held signs urging Biden to halt sending bombs to Israel, as he promised increased humanitarian aid for Gaza.
Some lawmakers, including Tlaib, Bush, and Summer Lee, refrained from applause and wore keffiyehs in solidarity with Palestine.
Progressive voices, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, abstained from chanting “four more years.”
They are demanding more substantial action from Biden, such as a permanent cease-fire and ongoing aid for Gaza.
While Biden called for a six-week cease-fire, Tlaib and Bush insisted on a lasting one, criticizing the continued violence and its toll on innocent civilians.
Biden acknowledged the devastating impact of the conflict, citing more than 30,000 Palestinian casualties, predominantly civilians, and nearly 2 million more affected by bombardment or displacement.
