Black passengers sue American Airlines over alleged racial discrimination
Three Black men are suing American Airlines, claiming they were unfairly removed from a flight due to racial discrimination.
The lawsuit alleges they were ejected from American Flight 832 on Jan. 5 without valid reason solely based on their race.
The men were told a complaint about body odor prompted their removal, but they have refuted that.
Cell phone footage captures a chaotic scene as the men question the airline’s actions, with one man calling it discrimination, which is repeated by an airline employee.
The plaintiffs, who did not know each other prior to the complaint, were eventually allowed back on the plane after an hour delay.
They are seeking compensation for pain and suffering, punitive damages, and attorney fees.
American Airlines says it takes discrimination seriously and is investigating the matter.
Civil rights group NAACP flagged American Airlines’ treatment of Black passengers in 2017, suggesting a pattern of discrimination.
