Black Muslim Life Featured In New Online Portrait Exhibit
A Black Muslim education and media collective launched a new online exhibit on Feb. 2 featuring portraits of Black Muslims.
These aim to highlight the beauty and diversity within the Black Muslim experience.
They are captured in dramatic lighting and are paired with audio clips of the subjects.
The project began as a conversation between Sapelo Square and New York-based photographer duo Rog & Bee Walker in 2016.
They have photographed more than 200 portraits of Black Muslims of diverse occupations, ages, geographical locations and spiritual approaches to Islam.
The project will initially feature about 50 portraits that are being released weekly on the Preserving the Legacy website.
