Billionaires influence GOP to cut social security programs
Republican lawmakers are considering cuts to Social Security and other federal programs following discussions with billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
The two were recently appointed by President-elect Donald Trump to a new commission aimed at reducing federal expenditures.
Despite previous assurances to protect Social Security, GOP members including Rep. Ralph Norman hinted that “nothing is sacrosanct,” signaling potential reductions.
The move comes after Musk and Ramaswamy’s visit to Capitol Hill, where they emphasized the need to examine all federal spending, including entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.
Critics, including Senate Budget Committee Chairman Sheldon Whitehouse, have slammed the plan as favoring wealthy interests at the expense of social security beneficiaries.
