Biden’s Gaza port plan criticized amid Israeli obstructions to aid
Muslim Network TV news:
President Joe Biden has announced a plan for the U.S. military to build a temporary port on Gaza’s coast, aiming to facilitate aid delivery.
The port will be used to deliver food, water, medicine, and other humanitarian assistance.
The move comes as Israel obstructs aid shipments on the ground, which has fuelled malnutrition and starvation.
Critics dismissed Biden’s plan as a mere public relations stunt unlikely to alleviate the dire humanitarian crisis.
The port is expected to take up to two months to build and is expected to handle large aid shipments, including food, water, medicine, and temporary shelters.
Georgetown University’s Josh Ruebner, a former Policy Director of the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, along with other experts, is arguing for immediate action to address the urgent starvation crisis.
Ruebner says waiting 45 to 60 days to build a temporary pier does not help Palestinians starving to death today.
The organization Jewish Voice for Peace Action also condemned the plan, citing its insignificance compared to U.S. military involvement in the region.
Meanwhile, the U.S., Britain, and the EU plan to establish a maritime route for aid delivery to Gaza.
