BIDEN VOLUNTEERS AT PHILADELPHIA FOOD BANK AHEAD OF MLK DAY
U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden packed food boxes while volunteering Sunday ahead of the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
They joined hunger relief organization Philabundance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The National Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a nationwide effort to transform the federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. into a day of community service that helps solve social problems.
The Day of Service was created in 1994 through federal legislation co-authored by former Pennsylvania US Senator Harris Wolford and the late US Congressman John Lewis of Georgia.
Both were veterans of the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. King.
