Biden Signs Executive Order To Hold Police Accountable On 2nd Anniversary Of George Floyd Murder
President Joe Biden today signed an executive order to “advance effective, accountable policing and criminal justice practices” that will build public trust and strengthen safety.
The White House announcement came on the second anniversary of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a former Minneapolis police officer.
Floyd’s murder spurred protests nationwide and calls to acknowledge the legacy of systemic racism in the criminal justice system and in institutions.
Biden said police cannot keep communities safe without public trust and confidence in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
The nation must do more to live up “to its founding promise of fair and impartial justice for all,” the White House statement read.
