Biden quietly approves billions in arms for Israel
President Joe Biden has green-lighted over $2 billion in new arms, including bombs and fighter jets, for Israel.
Despite widespread destruction and displacement in Gaza, Israel plans to extend its offensive to its southern region of Rafah.
The Washington Post reports that the approved arms include 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs and 25 F-35A fighter jets and engines.
These sales were not publicly disclosed, indicating a shift in U.S.-Israel relations.
Biden’s decision contrasts with calls from fellow Democrats to condition sending arms to Israel with its adherence to humanitarian standards, citing a 1961 law.
The transfer has taken place despite tensions between the Biden administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
