Biden pledges 100% federal funding for California wildfires
President Joe Biden has announced full federal funding for the response to the California wildfire.
For the next 180 days, the government will cover 100% of costs, including debris removal, shelters, first responders’ salaries, and property protection.
Biden said the decision follows California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s request for increased support due to the disaster’s scale.
Three major fires are still burning in Los Angeles, prompting Biden to deploy all possible federal resources.
More than 30 firefighting helicopters and planes are aiding efforts, with additional support from Canada.
At least 10 people have been killed, over 10,000 structures including homes and businesses destroyed, and thousands of residents evacuated.
Damage estimates have soared to $50 billion, with insured losses surpassing $20 billion.
The Palisades Fire, the largest and costliest in U.S. history, has burned nearly 20,000 acres, destroying entire neighborhoods.
It is only 6% contained.
