Bangladesh asks India to extradite ex-premier Hasina
Bangladesh has asked India to extradite ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
She fled to India on Aug. 5 after a student-led uprising against her 15-year rule.
The uprising left more than 700 people dead and led to a transitional government under Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain confirmed a formal request for Hasina’s return.
She faces multiple charges, including alleged genocide.
India acknowledged receiving the request but gave no comment.
Yunus expressed concern over Hasina’s stay in India.
Bilateral relations have deteriorated, with Dhaka criticizing Indian media for alleged propaganda and border killings.
Bangladesh’s interim government seeks reforms before elections, targeting 2026 to ensure democratic stability.
Relations remain strained as Dhaka pushes for stronger Indian action to address border violence and facilitate Hasina’s extradition.
