Bahrain students excel in global education rankings
Innovative teaching methods and curriculum development drive Bahrain’s success in global education assessment
MANAMA, Bahrain (MNTV) — Bahrain’s students have secured top positions in the Arab world in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2023, showcasing exceptional performance in mathematics and science.
The results, announced by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), highlight Bahrain’s significant achievements in education.
According to the Arabic daily Al-Watan, the country ranked second in the Arab world in fourth-grade science and third in fourth-grade mathematics. Similarly, eighth-grade students placed fourth in science and third in mathematics.
The IEA, an independent international cooperative of research agencies based in Amsterdam, administers TIMSS to assess educational systems worldwide.
Bahrain’s participation included all government and private schools, alongside a diverse international cohort.
Dr. Samah Mohammed Al-Ajawi, Assistant Undersecretary for Education, expressed her gratitude to students and teachers for their efforts. She emphasized the Ministry of Education’s commitment to advancing teaching methodologies in mathematics and science to meet global standards.
“The Ministry is actively developing curricula to enhance the quality of mathematics and science education, ensuring better outcomes in future international assessments,” Dr. Al-Ajawi said.
The TIMSS study serves as a benchmark for evaluating educational practices in these critical subjects.
It provides comprehensive data on teaching methodologies and helps shape policies to improve learning outcomes across Bahrain’s public and private schools.
Educational experts note that Bahrain’s success reflects a broader effort to integrate innovative teaching methods, critical thinking, and modern facilitation techniques into classrooms.
With its strong performance in TIMSS 2023, Bahrain reinforces its commitment to excellence in education and positions itself as a regional leader in science and mathematics.
