Bahrain Shuts Down Indian Restaurant For Anti-Hijab Bias
Authorities in Bahrain’s capital Manama shut down an Indian restaurant after it denied entry to a woman wearing the hijab.
Video footage of restaurant staff barring a veiled woman from the restaurant in the Muslim-majority country went viral on social media causing outrage.
On Friday, the friend of the woman in question explained what happened in a now widely-shared video.
In it, the woman said the restaurant, “Lanterns,” told her friend she cannot enter because she was wearing a hijab.
Bahraini newspaper the Daily Tribune reports that the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority has launched an investigation into the matter.
The Indian state of Karnataka has banned Hijab wearing girls in schools and now an Indian University is investigating a Muslim student offering his prayers at the campus.
