Arrest warrant issued for Somali president’s son after fatal motorcycle crash in Istanbul
ISTANBUL (AA) – A Turkish court has issued an arrest warrant for the son of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident in Istanbul.
The arrest warrant for the Somali president’s son was issued, alleging his involvement in the incident that resulted in the death of motorcycle rider Yunus Emre Gocer after the collision.
The investigation into the accident that occurred on Nov. 30 at the exit of the Eurasia Tunnel in Istanbul’s Fatih district, resulting in the death of a motorcycle rider associated with a delivery service, continues under the jurisdiction of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Following the incident, the driver M.H.S.M., who was detained as part of a preliminary investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and identified as the son of the Somali president, was released, and a travel ban outside the country was imposed.
The expert report requested by the prosecution to determine the fault status of the suspect indicated that the vehicle driver was “primarily at fault.”
The suspect, M.H.S.M., stated in the report that the motorcyclist suddenly braked and made a right turn without signaling. He claimed to have applied the brakes but could not stop in time, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle.
