Americans Wrongly Believe American Muslims Are 27% Of The Population
Among religious minorities, Muslim Americans were estimated to be 27% of the population, but they actually only make up 1%.
The same is true for Jewish, and other racial and ethnic minorities, such as Native Americans, Asian and Black populations.
Two recent YouGov polls asked respondents to guess the percentage of American adults who belong to 43 different categories, including racial and religious groups.
The polls revealed people’s perceptions of minority groups’ sizes compared to actual population estimates were vastly overestimated.
