American Imams rally behind students movement
A group of religious scholars and Imams has issued a statement in support of the student encampment movement across American campuses in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
The group has commended the students for their bravery in holding universities accountable, saying they are following the tradition of resistance that ended Jim Crow laws and South African apartheid.
Drawing on Islamic principles of justice, transparency, and righteous action, the scholars and leaders also emphasized the religious imperative to stand with the students.
They emphasised the centrality of Islam in the struggle.
The group urged academic institutions to uphold free speech and critical inquiry, rejecting profit-driven motives and foreign interests.
Addressing the Muslim community, the scholars stressed the obligation to end genocide and support Palestinian youth.
