American activist honored in West Bank memorial
Palestinians held a heartfelt memorial for Aysenur Eygi, a 26-year-old American activist, killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank.
In her memorial procession in Nablus, her body was draped in a Palestinian flag and traditional keffiyeh scarf, symbolizing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Eygi was reportedly shot by Israeli forces during a demonstration in Beita near Nablus.
Her body was later transferred for repatriation to Turkiye, where she was born, and her family had requested her burial.
Eygi had recently graduated from the University of Washington and was volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement or ISM.
She is the third member of ISM to be killed by the Israeli army, with Rachel Corrie, another American, bulldozed to death in 2003, and British national Tom Hurndall shot in the head by an Israeli sniper in 2004.
Israel’s military has acknowledged Eygi’s death and said investigations are ongoing.
