Almost every Friday a Spaniard converts to Islam in Granada
MADRID, Spain – At least one Spanish citizen converts to Islam almost every Friday in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia.
The president of the Spanish Islamic Society, Umar del Pozo, said that in recent years they have been receiving one person almost every Friday who wants to convert to Islam.
Del Pozo, who also heads the Granada Grand Mosque Foundation, said that of the 36,000 Muslims living in Granada, 3,700 are converted Spaniards.
A video released by Turkey’s Anadolu news agency shows a young Spaniard named Jose Miguel converting to Islam by reciting the Kalima Shahada at the Granada Grand Mosque.
The secretary of the Islamic Commission of Spain, Mohamed Ajana, said that the Muslim population in Spain has increased tenfold in the last 30 years.
According to official figures, the country’s Muslim population exceeds 2.5 million.
The immigrant Muslim population lives mainly in industrialized regions such as Catalonia, Valencia, Andalusia, and Madrid.
