All eyes on Trump-Netanyahu talks as Israeli assaults against Palestinians continue
All eyes are on the meeting between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week.
The talks come at a crucial time, with Israeli assaults against Palestinians continuing unabated.
Netanyahu, who is facing political pressure at home, is seeking firm backing from the White House.
Trump has shown strong support for Israel, but has been supportive of a ceasefire in Gaza.
Hours before their meeting, Netanyahu’s office announced that Israel would send a delegation to Qatar’s capital, Doha, later this week for negotiations.
Hamas has said it is ready to negotiate the second stage of the ceasefire, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S.
The next phase aims to secure the release of remaining captives and lay out steps toward ending the war, which has devastated Gaza’s 2.4 million people and killed over 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
Meanwhile, eight Israeli soldiers were wounded early Tuesday in an attack on a military checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army on Tuesday demolished a Palestinian home near Salfit city in the northern occupied West Bank.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu news agency that the Israeli army raided the village of Kafr al-Dik in the Salfit Governorate and began demolishing a home.
Medical evacuations from Gaza have been put on hold after a delay in Israel’s list of patients approved for travel.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed more than 61,700 people, according to a revised toll by Palestinian officials.
As well, more than 9,000 people have been reported missing in Gaza since the war began, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
