Algeria unveils sign language Quran for deaf
Algeria has launched a groundbreaking project to create a “Sign Language Quran” for the deaf and mute community.
The initiative was announced by Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments Dr. Youcef Belmehdi. It aims to make the Quran accessible to the hearing and speech impaired.
This follows the successful production of the Braille Quran for the visually impaired.
Speaking at a national seminar on strengthening Algeria’s religious identity, the minister said work on the Sign Language Quran has begun with the first chapters under production.
Belmehdi also highlighted the increasing enrollment in Quranic schools and religious institutions, now exceeding 1.2 million students.
