Al-Udeid Air Base can’t be used against any country: Qatar
Qatar said on Wednesday it will not allow any attacks from the Al-Udeid Air Base, which hosts the largest U.S. military facility in the Middle East, against any country.
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman told Qatar TV that Qatar’s relationship with the U.S. “is a strategic partnership”.
That requires cooperation on multiple levels while each party “enjoys full sovereignty, and neither interferes in the affairs of the other,” he said.
Qatar hosts about 13,000 U.S. troops at Al-Udeid Air Base.
The Qatari premier said his nation has been mediating for a cease-fire in Gaza for more than a year but, an “agreement requires two parties.”
Iran is on high alert in anticipation of an Israeli military response to the Oct. 1 missile attack by Tehran.
This was in retaliation for Israel’s assassinations of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders, and Iranian Revolutionary Guards commanders.
Israel expanded the conflict on Oct. 1 by launching an incursion into southern Lebanon.
