Al-Azhar Calls For Enacting Law Criminalizing Islamophobia
Al-Azhar University, the top Sunni Islamic Institution in the world, is calling for enacting a new law to protect mosques and confront Islamophobia.
The Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism said there is an urgent need to enact a new law guaranteeing protection of mosques and criminalizing Islamophobia.
This call comes amid rising hate speech against Islam and Muslims in many European countries, the observatory said.
The Norwegian Brandelij organization issued a report about crimes of discrimination.
It revealed 768 recorded attacks against mosques in Germany between 2014 and 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, 83 cases of hostility against Islam were recorded.
