Afghanistan launches vocational training for youth
Vocational training program in Paktia province aims to equip 280 youth with skills in mobile phone repair, motorbike repair, electricity, and tailoring, offering hope for job creation.
KABUL, Afghanistan (MNTV) — A new six-month vocational training program has been launched in Afghanistan’s southeastern Paktia province, aimed at empowering 280 youth with valuable skills that will improve their job prospects and contribute to the local economy.
The initiative, announced by Labour and Social Affairs Director Qari Mohammad Rahim Nasrat on Tuesday, will provide participants with both theoretical and practical training in key areas such as mobile phone and motorbike repair, electricity, and tailoring.
The program is part of broader efforts to address unemployment in the region and help young people develop skills that will enhance their economic self-sufficiency, Pajhwok Afghan News reports.
“This vocational training is not just about learning a trade, it is about creating opportunities for our youth,” Nasrat said at the ceremony.
“We are also working to expand these programs for newly returned youth, ensuring that more young people across the province benefit.”
Shafiqullah, one of the participants, highlighted the importance of such training in tackling the growing problem of unemployment.
He believes that these programs offer more than just job skills—they also provide hope.
“Vocational training is vital for creating job opportunities for unemployed youth in our community,” Shafiqullah shared.
“By learning a trade, we can stay away from harmful activities like drugs and support our families.”
Rohullah, another trainee specializing in motorbike repair, shared his aspirations of starting his own business once the training is complete.
“I am learning skills that will help me become independent,” he said.
“With the right tools and equipment, I can set up my own business and contribute to the local economy.”
The Taliban-led Afghanistan government has emphasized its commitment to providing ongoing support, including equipment and resources, to help graduates of the program successfully enter the workforce and launch their businesses.
