Afghanistan earmarks 160,000 acres for industrial boom
Taliban-led administration pushes economic revival with nationwide industrial parks initiative
KABUL, Afghanistan (MNTV) — The Taliban-led Afghan government has initiated a large-scale industrialization drive, allocating 160,000 acres of land across 16 provinces for the development of industrial parks.
The move aims to attract investment, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen Afghanistan’s manufacturing sector.
According to Kabul-based TOLO News, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock has begun transferring land to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce under a decree from the Islamic Emirate’s leadership.
Misbahuddin Mustaeen, spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed that each province involved will receive 1,000 acres for industrial development.
“So far, this process is ongoing in 16 provinces, but it has not been completed yet because legal procedures take time,” Mustaeen stated. “In the near future, this process will extend to other provinces.”
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce highlighted that the land distribution will create investment opportunities within newly designated industrial parks.
Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, the ministry’s spokesperson, urged industrialists to apply for land, emphasizing the project’s potential for long-term economic benefits.
Key land allocations include:
- 10,000 acres for industrial zones in Kunduz
- 20,000 acres each in Kandahar, Nangarhar, and Balkh
- 8,000 acres across four industrial zones in Kabul
- 1,000 acres in each of the remaining designated provinces
Business leaders welcomed the initiative but called for further support. The Afghanistan Chamber of Industries and Mines stressed the urgent need for reliable energy supply to complement land distribution.
“For Afghanistan’s development and investment attraction, two key factors are land distribution and energy supply,” said Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, the chamber’s first deputy.
“If investors have access to these, both industry and investment will grow, particularly in Kabul.”
The land allocation follows the recent approval of the Industrial Areas Law, which aims to regulate industrial zones, encourage private investment, and lay the groundwork for Afghanistan’s economic revival.
