Accused plotters of 9/11 terror attacks reach plea deals: Pentagon
Three key suspects in the Sept. 11 attacks have agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges.
The plea has been made in exchange for a life sentence, thereby allowing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Bin Attash, and Mustafa al-Hawasawi to avoid a death penalty trial.
Chief Prosecutor Rear Admiral Aaron Rugh confirmed the agreement.
It includes guilty pleas to all charges, including the murders of 2,976 victims.
The men are expected to enter their pleas in court next week.
The New York Times reports that the development comes after a senior Pentagon official approved the deal.
The three men are accused of plotting the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
They have been held at Guantanamo Bay since 2003.
The Defense Department has acknowledged the plea deals but did not share further details.
