Several European Union nations have renewed COVID restrictions to slow the virus’ spread. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Friday announced Western Europe's first partial lockdown as COVID surged there. It involves three weeks of curbs on restaurants, shops and sporting events. In Germany, Berliners are preparing for new rules starting Monday that exclude people from some public spaces, such as bars, restaurants, and hairdressers. Only the vaccinated or those who have recovered from COVID-19 will be able to enter these and other public spots. As well, in Austria, Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said the country will begin a lockdown for unvaccinated people amid a record surge in cases.
