UN Declares March 15 International Day To Combat Islamophobia
The United Nations has declared March 15 international day to combat islamophobia.
The resolution, introduced by Pakistan, marks the day in 2019 when a white supremacist Australian gunman killed 51 Muslims and wounded 40 others in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Pakistan’s U.N. envoy munir akram said anti-muslim hatred is “proliferating” in parts of the world.
An indian representative expressed concern over recognizing the phobia against one religion while excluding others.
The resolution, proposed by the organisation of islamic cooperation, was adopted by consensus.
it was backed by 57 OIC members and eight other countries, including China and Russia.
