Poland Which Once Blocked Muslim Refugees, Now Welcomes 1 Million Ukrainians
Poland is welcoming Ukrainians fleeing the war in sharp contrast to its treatment of previous waves of refugees from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.
In 2021, Poland aggressively stopped refugees on the Belarusian border.
Now, Polish men and women have been traveling to the border in private cars to offer rides to refugees.
Meanwhile, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said its member countries “must be prepared to host 5 million people” from Ukraine.
Borrell was speaking ahead of a meeting for EU ministers in Montpellier in southern France.
