U.S. Bombs Somalia Amid Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
Just before Russian President Vladimir Putin began a full-scale military assault on Ukraine, the United States launched its latest drone attack in its 15-year war with Somalia.
While Russia’s aggression has drawn global condemnation, the U.S.’s actions in Somalia have largely flown under the radar.
The U.S. Africa Command said Wednesday the airstrike targeted suspected al-Shabab militants “after they attacked partner forces in a remote location near Duduble.”
It is the fifth U.S. airstrike in Somalia since the start of President Joe Biden’s term.
Before him, former president Donald Trump bombed Somalia more in the first two years of his presidency than Barack Obama did in eight, journalist Spencer Ackerman wrote.
