Rally in Jakarta against hijab ban in India
JAKARTAINDONESIA – FEBRUARY 26: Thousands of people rallied near the Indian Consulate GeneralIndonesia’s Jakarta on Saturday (Feb. 26) to protest against the headscarf ban in the Indian state of Karnataka.
The demonstration came after Muslim girls were barred from classes in some Indian colleges for wearing hijab.
During the demonstration, protestors chanted slogans and held banners such as “In solidarity with our sister in Karnata” and “Hijab is our identity. Education is our right”.
The hijab row started when female Muslim students were barred last month from attending their classes at a government college in the Udupi district of the southwestern Karnataka province because they were wearing hijab.
