Coalition Warns That Trump And His GOP Allies Pose ‘Unprecedented’ Threat To Democracy
Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently issued a threat to unleash his supporters on major U.S. cities.
If reelected, Trump said he would consider pardoning the Jan. 6 insurrectionists.
These statements underscore the former president and his far-right GOP allies represent “a clear and present danger” to democracy.
That is according to an open letter released Thursday by a coalition of advocacy organizations.
It includes Public Citizen, MoveOn Civic Action, Stand Up America, and Digital Democracy Project.
The letter implores the U.S. Congress, the Biden White House, state Legislatures, prosecutors, and the public to “respond to the ongoing legitimization of political violence.”
Trump is gearing up for another presidential run in 2024.
