Indian Court Tells Muslim Girls No Hijabs
A court in a southern Indian state told Muslim students on Thursday not to wear hijab until it delivers a verdict on their petitions.
The students had requested the court overturn a ban on hijabs or headscarves worn by Muslim women.
The Supreme Court of India on Friday declined to hear the case.
Hijab protests have spread across India as girls refuse to be told what not to wear.
“Yes sir, we are receiving so many threats and I can see people following us, but I’m not scared of them. I’m really not scared of them! You know, I am asking for my justice and I hope I will get justice and I am waiting for my victory!”
Following the defiance of Muskaan Khan, “Allahu Akbar” has become the rallying cry for the hijab rights movement.
A number of demonstrators were detained and beaten by Police in the capital New Delhi and Kolkata on Thrusday.
Students and activists also marched in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and other cities.
