Toronto Ahmadiyya Misionary Charged With Child Abuse
A Toronto-area Ahmadiyya missionary is facing child pornography and extortion charges in the United States.
Luqman Rana is charged with 10 counts of producing pornography of five children and extorting them by threatening to injure their reputation for personal gain.
If convicted of all counts, he faces a mandatory term of 15 to 160 years in a federal prison.
On Dec. 12, a recorded audio call between the Ahmadiyya’s London-based world leader and one of his female relatives was leaked.
During the conversation, he asked her not to pursue action against her alleged rapist.
Since then, three major cases of sexual assault have made headlines.
It has strengthened calls for reform within the Ahmadiyya community.
The U.S. Department of Justice says the incidents took place between June 2014 and June 2016.
