Lawmakers Urge Pelosi To Hold Vote On Stock Trading Ban On House Members
A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers on Monday urged top Democrats and Republicans in the House to swiftly bring legislation banning Congress from owning or trading stock to the floor.
The call came in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat who has faced criticism for defending her husband’s trades and existing rules.
Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, is reportedly considering enacting a ban on lawmakers trading if the GOP wins control of the chamber in November’s midterms.
The proposed laws are the Ban Conflicted Trading Act or the TRUST in Congress Act.
