Highest-Ranking American Muslim Soldier Is Tiktok Sensation
Facing discrimination from other soldiers after his conversion to Islam and other challenges, Army Colonel Khalid Shabazz was ready to quit the military.
But a Christian army chaplain encouraged him to stay.
Now he is a chaplain himself preaching on TikTok with messages from the Quran and the Bible to roughly 43,000 followers.
Shabazz is an exception on the social media platform, where about half of the content creators are under the age of 28, according to a report.
Most TikTok users hadn’t even been born when Shabazz joined the military 28 years ago.
It is also a generation with few ties to military service.
About 71% of young Americans between 17 and 24 are ineligible to serve due to health or other issues, according to a recent report.
