KABUL URGES ISLAMIC COUNTRIES TO RECOGNIZE AFGHAN GOVERNMENT
Afghanistan’s prime minister Mullah Akhund in a rare meeting attended by representatives of 20 foreign countries this week, called on the international community to recognize its government.
He said Islamic countries should not wait and let the US be the first to recognize Afghanistan, after which, he told them “you would also recognize it.”
He also urged the US to release the Afghan Central Bank’s $9.5 billion in assets, which it froze when the Taliban took control of the country in August.
Akhund said the lack of recognition is creating severe challenges for Afghans in a variety of ways.
