SPANISH SECRET SERVICE BEHIND BARCELONA TERROR ATTACKS BLAMED ON MUSLIMS, EX-COP SAYS
A former senior officer in Spain’s National Police Corps claimed the 2017 terror attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils were organized by the country’s secret service.
Jose Manuel Villarejo said the attacks were a bid to destabilize Catalonia before the independence referendum there.
The attacks in August of that year included a truck running over pedestrians on La Rambla in Barcelona.
A total of 16 people died in the attacks, including a woman killed as five members of a jihadist cell launched a knife attack on the beachfront at Cambrils.
All five men were shot dead by police.
Three men who helped in the attacks were sentenced to between eight and 53 years in jail.
