PUTIN FIRST WESTERN LEADER TO SHOW EMPATHY TOWARD MUSLIM SENTIMENTS: PM IMRAN KHAN
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Muslims supported his words about the Prophet Muhammad, the Kremlin press service said Monday.
Putin’s statements were made during an annual press conference on Dec. 23.
He spoke about the “inadmissibility of any action under the cover of freedom of expression that degraded the dignity of particular religious, national or social groups.”
Putin also said insulting the Prophet Muhammad “violated the freedom of religion as well as the sacred feelings of people who profess Islam.”
Putin’s comments received widespread support in the Islamic world.
The Kremlin noted Putin said Russia historically had been a multinational and multi-confessional state where peoples of various religions, including Islam, could coexist.
