U.N. OFFICIAL SLAMS HARASSMENT OF INDIAN MUSLIM WOMEN
In international news, U.N. Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Dr. Fernand de Varennes took to Twitter over the social medial harassment of Indian Muslim women.
Varennes asked that the culprits be prosecuted.
His remarks came amid recent shock and furor over the “Bulli Bai” App.
It targets prominent Muslim women by putting up their images online for “auction” as prostitutes.
Six months ago, another app auctioned scores of Muslim women in India.
No one was charged for that until a similar app popped up on New Year’s Day.
This latest app has resulted in arrests.
Indian Muslim women have been leading the protest movement against discriminatory citizenship laws passed by the government, which has promped harassment.
