Jordan’s tourism revenue records significant Growth in Early 2025
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) – Preliminary data shows that tourism in Jordan has seen 16.3% increase during the first two months of 2025, reaching $1.28 million compared to the same period in 2024.
The data is released by Jordan’s Central Bank, according to Jordan Times.
This growth is attributed to an 18.5% rise in the number of tourists visiting the Kingdom, according to Al Mamlaka TV.
The data indicated a broad-based increase in tourism revenue across all nationalities.
Revenue from expatriate Jordanians grew by 12 per cent, while non-Jordanian Arab tourists contributed a 16.7 percent increase.
European and American tourists saw rises of 4.6 per cent and 14.6 per cent, respectively, with other nationalities surging by 42.5 per cent.
Spending on outbound tourism also increased by 16.7 percent during the same period, reaching $342.7 million.
Additionally, remittances from Jordanian expatriates to the Kingdom rose by 1.2 per cent in January 2025, totaling $320 million, up from $316.4 million in January 2024.
The positive start to 2025 contrasts with the performance of the tourism sector in 2024, which saw a 2.3 percent decline in revenue, amounting to $10.3 billion.
This decline was attributed to a 3.9 per cent drop in the number of tourists, according to CBJ data released in January 2025.
While tourism revenue from Jordanian expatriates and non-Jordanian Arab tourists increased by 7.7 percent and 12 percent, respectively, in 2024, revenue from European, American, and other nationalities declined sharply by 54 percent, 35.2 percent, and 15.3 percent.
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) report in June 2024 highlighted the impact of the Gaza conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, on Jordan’s tourism sector.
The report noted that cancellations by tourists from advanced economies, which account for a third of tourism revenue, significantly affected the sector.
The increase in tourist numbers and revenue underscores the sector’s resilience and its ability to rebound from external shocks.
The CBJ’s data reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to promote Jordan as a key tourist destination, leveraging its rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and natural attractions.
As the Kingdom continues to navigate regional challenges, the tourism sector remains a critical driver of economic growth and stability.
By fostering a favorable environment for tourism and addressing external pressures, Jordan aims to sustain this positive momentum and further strengthen its position as a leading destination in the region.
